My name is Steve, and my father is Arthur. We would like any info. about my grandfather, A.L. Farr, who was stationed at Pearl Harbor during the attack in 1941. He was a trombone player in the band, and a Chief Petty Officer as well. We also believe that he was the bandmaster. Any info. at all about Grandad (Dad) would be appreciated.

Thank You,

Arthur & Steve Farr

I have been preparing an exhibit of envelopes - mailed by sailors from ships home-ported at Pearl Harbor, each dated within the first week of December, 1941. The exhibit will be shown at the Annual Convention of the Universal Ship Cancellation Society, in July, 2001, near Washington, DC.

At the moment, I'm seeking information about the SPECIFIC location of MARYLAND on 4 Dec 1941 for the write-up on the envelope I have mailed on that date. Help would be very much appreciated.

I have a picture, an "official U.S. Naval Photogragh" of the USS Maryland.
I went through some of my Grandfather's belongings, and he has a lot of "Official" photos, but I am trying to find out more on each of the photos that I do have.
The photo is of the USS Maryland in water with the inscription
U.S.S. Maryland (BB46)
(Class of 1916)
Is there any interest out there.
I am living in the 40's...since I went thorugh his things...old postcards, Christmas cards...wrapping paper..you name he has it...then I saw these, and I am dying to find out more about the all the ships that I have pictures of.
Any interest would be great.
Sincerely

Aloha All,
Research has stalled on this section of the book, ABOVE PEARL: A Tactical History of 7 Dec 1941. I seek witnesses to the attack on USS Maryland.

Of course, we have known about the two hi-level bomb hit claims by Commander Mitsuo Fuchida given in Naval Proceedings several decades ago. However, I seek testimony about the concerted effort by Japanese dive bombers to further damage USS Maryland.

From data in the Japanese "kodochosho" (combat reports), there were three separate groupings: A group of five, a group of six and a group of two. The order of the hits and misses are of great interest.

One of these planes was shot down by USS Maryland 1.1" guns. I seek the victor gun crew's names and contact addresses with those of that gun crew.

Mahalo and Sincerely,

Director
