I am new to this site so don't know if I have any info of interest to anyone. My uncle Hospital Apprentice First Class was killed in kimakaze attack on the USS Maryland November 1944. Obit says: "Funeral services and burial for Pete Clovis Manly who was killed in the battle of the Phillippines in November 1944 and whose body was returned to the US aborad Army transport Dalton Victory will be buried in San Francisco. He was killed when a kimakaze bomb fell through the hatch of the battleship Maryland into the hospital section where Manly was assigned."

Wish someone out there remembered him.

My dad served on the Maryland from july 1943 to September 1945. His name was William (Bill) M. Brock, Seaman 1st Class. Before he died 2 years ago he told me that one of the men removed from the ship due to the kamikzi attack was presumed to have died due to his extensive injuries. Dad told me that he ran into this guy in Kansas City in 1947. Don't know of any further details but dad told me this as an example of how hardy people can be. Wish dad was still here to give you further info.

I am trying to prepare a damage/incident history for the kamikaze hit of 29 Nov. 44. Anything that can be remembered will probably help. All I have right now is the basic location, and a few details from the USS MARYLAND 1941-1945 book. I would like to know the extent of the damage, such as blast damage at various deck levels, smoke spread, firefighting efforts, and any other related info. I am scanning in the photos from the USS MARYLAND 1941-1945 book, as well as deck plans from the Damage Control Book, which may help jog memories. I have access to these due to my job with the Navy. Please pass the word, and email me if you think you can help.
