My grandfather served on the Maryland from '41-'45.His name was Thomas H. Westfall and just wondered if anyone remembered him. He passed away in '79 and I never really got to ask him about his service. Thanks to him and all the sailors that survived Pearl Harbor and served her and their country proudly!!!!!

My grandfather Max Jackson served on the Maryland from 1942-1945. He manned a AA position above where the kamikaze struck below the stack. He is alive and well, and living near Oakwood, Oklahoma. I would very much enjoy hearing from anyone who knew him at that time, and would pass on any messages or information to him. Learned alot here and printed off many pages to give to him. I sure he will enjoy them. THANK YOU!

My father (Keith Bowers) was a proud member of the Navy Band aboard the Maryland after Pearl Harbor. Unfortunately, he passed away last month (7/6/9 ). He was a trombone player and served as a fireman too. My mother has a number of photos that were taken onboard and as soon as I get a scanner, I'll attempt to transfer these if anyone is interested. Again, this is a fabulous site.

I have had it all these years. Inside the book, I found a f lded piece of paper (USS Maryland Letterhead) with a list of some of Dad's shipmates who were his close friends I suppose. The names are: Austin Mallow, R.D. Garner, William C. Calvin, Tex McIlroy, Bill Daughetry, Walter C. Cockran, Merle Calussen, Calus en Carmack, A.R. Liggett, Gail Calusen, and Lewis Kilgore. I was recently at a web page called "The Attack Minute by Minute" It had most of the ships at Pearl Harbor's deck logs, showing what time they sounded GQ and reports made from the bridge. But the Maryland's was not on there and I wanted to know if anyon knows what time the Maryland sounded GQ or if there's a deck log available. Thank you

I've been fascinated with pre-WWII battleships, particularly the USS Maryland, since I was a kid. I think this ship, as it appeared with its two high-top masts atop the lattice caging, was a real work of art. I once saw a picture from a school text book which showed the USS Maryland in the foreground and the USS Lexington in the background. Its caption read: "Pride of the U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet in 1941..." (then listed the two ships). I have been looking f r this picture for many years and have not seen it since. I appreciate any help in finding a copy of it. Can interested people who did not serve aboard this ship (it was scrapped one year after I was born) attend your reunions? I recently visited the USS Missouri at Pearl Harbor and found it interesting that the "Mighty Mo" is temporarily situated on the old mooring site for the USS Maryland and USS Oklahoma. I asked one of the guides about their mooring quays (they are the onl two battleship row ships whose quays are not visible/present today), and was told that they were blown-up to enable the Maryland to get past the sunken Oklahoma. Does anyone know whether or not this is true? It seems they then would have had to do the ame thing to dislodge the USS Tennessee from the USS West Virginia, yet their quays are in place.

I'd like information about the reunion - times dates, places, etc. My brother "talked" to Dick Beaman on email and now we'd like further information. Dad is very proud of his time in the Navy and his tour of duty aboard the Maryland. As a result, all the rest of our family is proud and very intere ted. I'll be in Iowa beginning Thursday night, the 25th. If you can't get any info to me before then, please send it to my brother at "lewtwo" Thank you very much!

**ATTENTION ALL HANDS** I have found where to get a CREW LIST of the Mary! It is at the National Archives at College Park, Maryland. The phone number is (301) 713-7230. I copied the number a little sloppy, if that is wrong, call this number: (202) 501-5671 this is the War Records in D.C. they will redirect you. The crew list omes on a roll of microfilm that you have to look at in the library since the Navy destroyed all original documents. Pick a time between Jan. of '41 and Jan. of '47, there is another place that has earlier crew lists, ask if you want. I chose Sept. of ' 1. The roll is $34 and they will send you an invoice first.

My father (James deMin) was a chief gunners mate on the Maryland from 1937 through 1945. I'm very greatful that someone has taken the time and expense to honor the crew of this fine ship. I print out everything I can find on the Maryland for my father ( e doesn't use the computer - yet) and he really enjoys it. Thank you very much. This is an exceptional site. James E. deMin 909 E.
