Veterans Association History
In the fall of 1974, two WW II vets were visiting and discussing old friendships. This dinner table conversation in Rockford, IL, led to contacting others. So in the
spring of 1975 in a small cafe in Milwaukee, WI, six former USS Maryland shipmates sat reminiscing about their wartime experiences. All wondered if there was some way that they
could keep in touch and reach more of the great many friends that they made during World War II, an experience that changed countless lives. Among the former sailors and marines
were Gene Storey, Walt Richardson, Bill Chick, Bob Smith, Cecil Harper and Lloyd Funk. In these meetings they joined in forming what later became the USS Maryland BB46 National
Veterans Association. This first reunion led to annual meetings held in various cities around the country.

The above article was written about the 1st victim of World War II. A monument to him is located at the Gridley-Biggs Cemetary in Gridley, California. Not only is this page dedicated to Sea.2C Warren H. McCutcheon, U.S.N., 'The First To Fall', but to all the other members of the U.S. Navy.
